What are Geosynthetic barriers?
Geosynthetic barriers are geosynthetic materials used as barriers to protect the environment from pollutants. They often consist of a combination of geotextile materials and bentonite or polymer components, known for their excellent sealing properties.
Naue offers various types of geosynthetic barriers, including:
- Bentofix®: Geosynthetic clay liners (GCL) that use bentonite as the sealing component. Ideal for landfill, tunnel, and pond sealing.
- Carbofol®: High-density polyethylene (HDPE) geomembranes that provide a reliable barrier against chemical and biological influences. Perfect for use in landfills, groundwater protection, and areas requiring chemical resistance.
Applications:
- Landfill Construction: Environmental protection by preventing pollutant entry into groundwater.
- Tunnel Construction: Water sealing and protection of tunnel structures.
- Pond Construction: Ensuring water retention and preventing seepage.
- Mining: Sealing of settling ponds and protection against contamination spread.
- Groundwater Protection: Barrier systems to protect drinking water reserves.
Advantages:
- High Durability: Longevity and resistance to chemical and biological influences.
- Effective Sealing: Immediate sealing effect through high-quality materials.
- Easy Installation: Quick and efficient installation, reducing construction time and costs.
- Versatility: Suitable for a wide range of applications and environmental conditions.
- Sustainability: Use of environmentally friendly materials and reduction of the CO₂ footprint through less material transport.
Geosynthetic Barriers from Naue
Bentofix®, also known as bentonite mats, are needle-punched reinforced geocomposites that combine two robust geotextiles with a waterproof layer of highly swelling sodium bentonite. The end product forms a uniform seal that is shear-resistant in all directions and also self-healing.
Bentofix® X multi-component geosynthetic clay liners (also known as bentonite mats) are needle-punched composites used as sealing elements. Highly swelling sodium bentonite powder is encapsulated between two layers of geotextiles: fully needle-punched for erosion resistance. A low-permeability and gas-tight polyethylene coating is firmly applied to the woven side.
Bentofix® + X Thermal Lock geosynthetic clay liners (GCLs) – also known as geosynthetic clay barriers (GBR-C) – are at the forefront of innovation in the mining industry. These needle-punched, reinforced composites combine two durable geotextile outer layers and a uniform core of highly swelling sodium bentonite clay.
Bentofix® Green is a thin, highly effective mineral sealing layer that contains silt and/or clay and/or bentonite as required, encapsulated between two stretchable and/or robust textile layers. The full-surface needle-punching of the textile layers allows the clay liner to absorb shear forces in any direction.
The Carbofol® geomembrane, made from high-quality polyethylene raw material, is available in various thicknesses and widths up to 7.50 meters. For technical applications on slopes, Carbofol® is available with a single- or double-sided textured surface.
Carbofol® + from Naue is not just another geomembrane, but the next significant advancement in environmental protection through geomembranes, especially in the demanding mining industry. Naue Carbofol® + geomembranes are manufactured from high-quality polyethylene resins. Carbofol® + is produced in various thicknesses and widths up to 7.50 meters.
