Secumat® Erosion control mat

Naue Secumat® is an erosion control mat for the protection of slopes, channels and embankments.

  • Secumat® is an erosion control mat for protection of slopes, channels and embankments.
  • The 3D polymer matrix anchors topsoil and roots, absorbs raindrop energy and prevents surface run-off.
  • ISO 9001/14001/50001, DIN 18200

Secumat® is an erosion control mat for permanent slope and channel protection. You install it directly on the surface of slopes, embankments, and drainage channels. The three-dimensional polymer matrix secures topsoil and seeds. It absorbs raindrop impact energy and supports root growth. The result is a stable, vegetated surface that resists erosion long-term.

Unprotected slopes lose topsoil within one rainfall event. Heavy rainfall triggers rill erosion, denudation, and particle loss. These failures cost time and money to repair. Secumat® solves this. It secures the soil surface from day one. Vegetation establishes quickly within the open 3D structure.

Secumat® uses local topsoil and hydroseed could be added. This eliminates costly imported fill. Light roll weights (26 to 57.6 kg per roll - verified from Naue DMS) reduce installation time and equipment costs. One system covers slopes, channels, and landfill edges.

Secumat® 3D Mesh products carry UV stability certification. Combined variants with integrated Secugrid® geogrid reach 40/40 kN/m tensile strength or higher.

Secumat® erosion control functions:

  • Erosion control

    Erosion control

Secumat® absorbs raindrop energy. Traps soil particles and seeds in the 3D polymer matrix. Prevents surface runoff and rill formation.

  • Separation

Nonwoven layer in e.g. Secumat® 601 201 variants prevents fine soil particles from washing through coarse backfill.

Secumat® erosion control mat advantages

Secumat® erosion control mat advantages provide long-term stability and rapid vegetation.

  • Function duration

    Durable performance over decades

Secumat® 3D Mesh products resist UV degradation for the service life of the structure. No replacement or maintenance required.

  • Biodegradable

    Rapid vegetation establishment

The open polymer matrix holds topsoil and seeds in place during heavy rainfall. Vegetation establishes within weeks.

  • Speed

    Time-saving one-product solution

    Variants 401 20/20 Q1 and 601 40/40 Q6 provide simultaneous erosion protection and slope reinforcement. Tensile strength: 20/20 to 40/40 kN/m.

Application areas

Typical applications:

  • Road and railway embankment slopes
  • Cut and fill slopes in infrastructure projects
  • Landfill capping slopes and reclamation areas
  • Vegetated slopes requiring rapid, permanent greening

Secumat® 3D Mesh is the surface erosion control layer for exposed slopes and embankments. Its UV-stabilised three-dimensional polymer matrix reduces the impact force of precipitation, improves infiltration and holds topsoil, seeds and roots in place until vegetation establishes. The artificial root structure stabilises the soil surface; the geogrid-reinforced variant (Secumat® 601 40/40 Q6 with integrated Secugrid®) prevents surface soil clods from breaking away on large areas. As a soil skin / desert skin system with appropriate anchoring, Secumat® protects slopes up to 75°.

Advantages on slopes and embankments:

  • Immediate erosion protection from installation; permanent, UV-stabilised function
  • Local topsoil and hydroseed can be used - no imported facing materials
  • Slopes up to 75° (soil skin / desert skin) with appropriate anchoring
  • Butt-to-butt fixing without cutting losses; no special tools required
  • Geogrid-reinforced variant (601 40/40 Q6) for large areas and steeper slopes

To the application:

Typical applications:

  • Drainage channels and ditches
  • Trench and outfall structures
  • Brook and watercourse banks (bed and bank erosion)
  • Vegetated channel slopes in stormwater systems

In drainage channels, trenches and watercourses, Secumat® protects bed and bank surfaces against erosive flow and supports a vegetated, filter-stable channel lining. On sandy or fine-grained banks, a Secutex® filter nonwoven beneath the mat prevents wash-out of fines during high-water events (Secumat® 601 201 combines the 3D mesh with an integral nonwoven for this purpose).

Advantages in channels and watercourses:

  • Bed and bank erosion control with a vegetated, natural finish
  • Combine with a Secutex® filter nonwoven for sandy or fine-grained banks
  • Lightweight; cut on site and installed by hand on confined channel sections
  • No hard armour visible once vegetation establishes

3D erosion control mat for superior soil retention

Secumat® erosion control mats use a three-dimensional extruded monofilament polymer matrix. An areal lies on the soil surface, intercepts runoff, but does not anchor soil particles. Secumat® encapsulates topsoil, seeds, and roots inside a 20 mm deep polymer labyrinth.

Under a 30 mm/hour rainfall event, a sheds water once saturation is reached. Secumat® 3D Mesh absorbs rainfall energy before it reaches the soil. Soil particles are retained even when the filling is fully saturated.

Root development reinforces this effect. Plant roots grow through the polymer matrix and anchor into the underlying soil. This creates a bio-composite layer that strengthens over time.

For combined reinforcement, Secumat® 601 40/40 Q6 integrates a Secugrid® PET geogrid. Tensile stiffness at 2% elongation: 18/18 kN/m (ISO 10319). Deploy on slopes up to 70 degrees. Design verification required.
