Secumat® Green Jute N is a biodegradable* jute erosion control mat for temporary slope protection and revegetation support.

  • The woven jute net absorbs precipitation, reduces surface runoff velocity and creates a favourable microclimate for seed germination and plant establishment.
  • Variant: Secumat® Green Jute N 500 20x30
  • Tensile strength: 7.5 kN/m (MD) / 5.0 kN/m (CMD)(EN ISO 10319)
  • Factory production control documentation with each delivery.

Secumat® Green Jute N is a jute erosion control mat for temporary slope protection and revegetation support. You install it directly on the exposed soil surface. No soil cover required. The woven jute net absorbs rainwater, slows surface runoff and creates an ideal microclimate for seed germination. The soil is protected until plants establish fully within 12 months.

Bare slopes after construction lose topsoil to the first heavy rain. Erosion grooves form. Topsoil washes away. Revegetation fails. Secumat® Green Jute N solves this. It covers the surface immediately after earthworks. It holds moisture. It gives seeds the time to grow. It then biodegrades* in the soil within about 12 months, leaving no synthetic residue.

Secumat® Green Jute N requires no soil cover and no disposal after service life. The mat degrades* completely within 12 months. This eliminates deconstruction cost entirely. For projects with short revegetation cycles, this means lower total project cost compared to synthetic alternatives that require removal.

Secumat® Green Jute N 500 20x30 delivers 7.5 kN/m tensile strength in MD and 5.0 kN/m in CMD (EN ISO 10319). Mass per unit area: 500 g/m² (EN ISO 9864). Thread count: 64 (warp/MD) x 48 (weft/CMD) per metre. Warp thread thickness: approx. 2.65 mm; weft thread thickness: approx. 1.6 mm. Shadowing ratio: 50% (LB 2021-05-27-002). Mesh spacing: 20 x 30 mm. Suitable for slope gradients up to 10°. Secure with Secumat® Green PinW 30.

Shadowing ratio in biodegradable* nets: why 50% aids revegetation

Secumat® Green Jute N 500 20x30 achieves a 50% shadowing ratio (test standard: LB 2021-05-27-002) - the critical design parameter for biodegradable* erosion control nets. A high ratio protects strongly but limits light; a low ratio the opposite. At 50%, Jute N hits the engineering optimum: it absorbs raindrop impact energy and reduces runoff velocity while transmitting enough light for germination and early growth. Its variable, sliding thread structure adds a second advantage - the openings adjust as plants grow, so shoots pass through without mechanical resistance throughout the 12-month service life.

A thread count of 64 x 48 per metre (warp/MD x weft/CMD), with 2.65 mm warp and approx. 1.6 mm weft thickness, produces the 500 g/m² mass per unit area, delivering 7.5 kN/m tensile strength in MD and 5.0 kN/m in CMD (EN ISO 10319) - sufficient for gradients up to 10°, typical for infrastructure verges, drainage channels and embankments.

Compared to coir: Secumat® Green Coco N has higher lignin content and a longer service life (up to 36 months for N 900). Jute N degrades* faster (within 12 months) but acts as an active water reservoir, releasing absorbed rain during dry spells for higher germination rates when rainfall is irregular - full performance at lower material cost where revegetation completes within 12 months.

Frequently asked questions

Secumat® Green Jute N is a biodegradable* jute erosion control net for temporary slope protection and revegetation support. It is manufactured as a woven net of double jute twine in warp and weft. You install it directly on bare soil. The net absorbs raindrop impact, reduces surface runoff and holds moisture as an active water reservoir. Plants establish within 12 months. The net then degrades* completely into the soil – no removal, no disposal.

Secumat® Green Jute N 500 is priced based on project area, delivery location and quantity. Contact Naue for a project-specific quote.

Jute N degrades* within 12 months, ideal for short revegetation cycles. Coco N lasts up to 36 months (N 900 variant), suits steeper slopes (>35°) and longer cycles. Jute absorbs moisture more effectively in dry conditions due to its higher hygroscopic capacity. Coco N handles steeper gradients. Both are made from 100% natural plant fibre - jute and coir respectively - and biodegrade* in the soil; both require no soil cover. The Coco N 400 has a shadowing ratio of approx. 40%, vs. 50% for Jute N.

Use Secumat® Green Jute N for slopes up to 10° with a 12-month revegetation target. Use Coco M for steeper slopes (up to 40°) or where a 36-month protection period is needed. Coco M has a closed fibre mat structure, better for higher erosion risk. Jute N is lighter and faster to install.

Shadowing ratio determines how much light reaches germinating seeds through the net. At 50%, Secumat® Green Jute N protects against raindrop erosion while transmitting enough light for rapid plant establishment. Too high a ratio limits vegetation. Too low offers weak protection. Tensile strength alone does not capture this balance. By comparison, Coco N 400 achieves approx. 40% shadowing ratio – lower surface coverage, suitable for projects where light penetration is prioritised.

Secumat® Green Jute N is manufactured under continuous factory production control. Documentation is available with each delivery.

Secumat® Green Jute N is easy to handle and install. The net is delivered in 10-panel bales (610 m² per bale). Secure it with Secumat® Green PinW 30 wooden pins. No specialist equipment is required. Installation on slopes up to 10° is straightforward with standard site labour.

Secumat® Green Jute N 500 20x30 is supplied in rolls of 1.22 m width x 50 m length. Each roll weighs 30.5 kg. Bales contain 10 panels, covering 610 m².

Secumat® Green Jute N is tested to: EN ISO 10319 (tensile strength), EN ISO 9864 (mass per unit area), LB 2021-05-27-002 (shadowing ratio, NAUE internal test standard). Specify proof of equivalency using these parameters per the Naue specification text.
