Carbofol^® + is an enhanced HDPE geomembrane for sealing in mining, landfill, and critical containment applications. You install it as a primary or secondary liner in base and slope sealing systems. It forms an impermeable polymeric barrier (GBR-P) against leachate, process liquids, and groundwater contamination. Its extended oxidation resistance delivers long-term liner integrity under demanding conditions.

Mining containment and hazardous waste landfills expose geomembranes to aggressive chemicals, high UV radiation, and extreme physical stress. Standard GRI GM-13 geomembranes may not provide sufficient oxidation resistance for these conditions. Carbofol^® + solves this with OIT ≥ 200 min (ASTM D8117) and HP-OIT ≥ 600 min (ASTM D5885), doubling the GM13 baseline values.

Roll format 120 m × 7.5 m reduces the number of field welds significantly compared to 5.0 m standard rolls. Fewer welds mean lower installation cost and fewer potential failure points. Extended oxidation resistance lowers lifecycle risk and reduces the cost of future remediation.

Carbofol^® + complies with GRI GM-13 at OIT ≥ 200 min (ASTM D8117) and HP-OIT ≥ 600 min (ASTM D5885). Density: ≥ 0.940 g/cm³ (EN ISO 1183). NCTL stress crack resistance: ≥ 500 h (ASTM D5397). Asperity height: ≥ 0.9 mm for BF/TF grades (ASTM D7466). MFR: 1.0 to 3.0 g/10 min (EN ISO 1133, 190 °C / 5.0 kg) for consistent weld quality at typical temperatures of ~380 °C.

MFR 1.0 to 3.0 g/10 min (EN ISO 1133) enables consistent weld quality at ~380 °C. Lower weld temperature preserves antioxidant reserve at the weld zone.
No delamination risk
BF/TF embossed structure with dimples moulded directly into the HDPE melt. Asperity height ≥ 0.9 mm for high interface friction.

HDPE geomembrane oxidation resistance: OIT and HP-OIT matter

Carbofol^® + addresses the central long-term failure mechanism in HDPE geomembranes: polymer oxidation. It depletes the antioxidant stabilisers in the PE matrix; once depleted, the polymer embrittles and loses stress crack resistance - accelerated by aggressive chemicals, acidic mine drainage and UV radiation.

Standard GRI GM-13 requires OIT ≥ 100 min (ASTM D8117) and HP-OIT ≥ 400 min (ASTM D5885) - baseline values calibrated for general applications. GRI Whitepaper No. 6 documents that antioxidant depletion accelerates significantly under acidic and basic conditions, exactly what heap leach operations and tailings ponds create. Carbofol^® + doubles both parameters - OIT ≥ 200 min, HP-OIT ≥ 600 min - and maintains the required residual values after oven ageing (ASTM D5721), giving designers a quantified safety reserve to document in their specification.

The combined OIT and HP-OIT stabiliser packets matter most where future chemistry is uncertain: mining projects change process chemistry over time, and the liner defends against both acidic leaching agents (e.g. sulfuric acid in copper production) and basic process liquids (e.g. sodium cyanide in gold processing). All standard GM13 mechanical properties are retained - ductility and weldability are not compromised.

Use smooth s/s on horizontal base liners where slope friction is not the design driver. Use BF/TF on slopes steeper than approximately 1:9 (6 degrees). BF/TF asperity height ≥ 0.9 mm (ASTM D7466) increases interface friction. BF/TF also allows heated wedge welding without grinding.

HP-OIT (ASTM D5885) measures oxidation resistance under elevated pressure, simulating long-term conditions in lined systems. Carbofol^® + HP-OIT ≥ 600 min provides a 50 % safety reserve over the GM13 baseline of 400 min. This is critical for TSF and heap leach liner longevity.

Carbofol^® + carries CE marking (AVCP System 2+, EN 13493), GRI GM-13 compliance with enhanced OIT and HP-OIT values, BAM approval for German landfill applications (since 1989), and ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 manufacturing certification. Declared service life: 25 years for exposed applications (DoP Annex B).

The BF/TF variant was verified in the TSF South-East Europe project on slopes 20 to 45 degrees. Asperity height ≥ 0.9 mm (ASTM D7466) and puncture resistance ≥ 535 N (EN ISO 12236) ensure durability. Rock bolt anchoring (394 bolts in TSF reference project) enables use on near-vertical rocky faces.

Carbofol^® + is available in 2.0 mm thickness. Standard roll size: 120 m × 7.5 m. Roll weight: approx. 1,680 kg (s/s) and approx. 1,788 kg (BF/TF). The 7.5 m width reduces the number of field welds per unit area compared to 5.0 m standard rolls.

Carbofol^® + complies with EN 13493, DIN EN 1849-2 (thickness), GRI GM-13, ASTM D8117 (OIT), ASTM D5885 (HP-OIT), ASTM D5397 (NCTL), ASTM D7466 (asperity height), EN ISO 10319 / ASTM D6693 (tensile), EN ISO 12236 (puncture), EN ISO 1183 (density), and EN ISO 1133 (MFR). BAM approval applies to German landfill applications under DepV regulations.
