Biodegradable* coir mat: slope control for dykes, embankments & infrastructure
Typical applications:
- Vegetating dykes and flood embankments during initial greening phase
- Erosion control on road and railway embankment slopes
- Securing and vegetating cut slopes on infrastructure projects
- Slope protection on sports facilities and public green spaces
Secumat® Green Coco is a coir erosion control mat for slope protection during the critical period between soil preparation and full vegetation establishment. Installed directly on the slope surface, the coir net intercepts raindrop kinetic energy, preventing rill erosion and seed wash-out. The variable and sliding mesh structure of the Coco N variants creates protected niches where seedlings establish rapidly. On steeper gradients above 35 degrees, the Coco N 900 variant provides the highest shadowing ratio (80 %) and tensile strength (19.2 kN/m MD). Slopes up to 40 degrees are covered by the Coco M 450 mat, whose thick coir-jute structure retains moisture for up to 36 months. Coir decomposition enriches soil nutrient content, supporting biodiversity on completed slopes.
Advantages:
- No deconstruction after use: the mat biodegrades* as vegetation matures
- Suitable for slope gradients above 35 degrees (Coco N) and above 40 degrees (Coco M)
- Fast installation with roll width 2.0–2.4 m and roll length 50 m
- Supports biodiversity by enriching soil nutrient content through coir decomposition
