Secugrid^® HS is a high-performance geogrid designed for soil reinforcement in the most demanding geotechnical applications. It is ideally suited for use in embankment foundations (with or without pile support) and in wall or slope systems. Manufactured from high-tenacity polyester (PET) filaments with robust welded junctions, Secugrid^® HS provides exceptional stiffness and long-term resistance to deformation under sustained loads. With nominal tensile strengths ranging from 400 to 1,200 kN/m, it covers the full spectrum of high strength reinforcement requirements.

Standard geogrids can reach their limits in very high embankments, large retaining structures, and safety-critical infrastructure, where insufficient reinforcement may lead to slope instability, excessive deformation, or settlement. Secugrid^® HS addresses these challenges with tensile stiffness at 1% strain up to 20,400 kN/m and ultimate tensile strength of up to 1,200 kN/m, enabling mobilisation of the required design tensile strength at very low elongation. This ensures reliable structural performance while maintaining strict serviceability limits.

Secugrid^® HS enables optimisation of load transfer platforms by reducing both aggregate volume and required pile spacing, lowering material and installation costs. A single, certified product family with five strength grades streamlines procurement and ensures consistent quality control across all reinforced layers.

Secugrid^® HS carries certifications with product-specific reduction factors for 120-year design life, different fill materials (e.g. coarse-gravel), environmental effects like pH-value of the fill for ranges between 4.1 to 9.0. EBGEO long-term design strength R_B,d: 218.4 to 524.1 kN/m (DS-P, 0/32 gravel, pH 4 to 10, 120 years).

Reinforcement
High-tenacity PET filaments with an extruded polyethylene protective coating and welded junctions resist tensile forces within the reinforced soil structure, mobilising the design tensile strength ensuring stability of embankments on soft soils by mitigating typical failure mechanisms such as deep-seated rotational slip, lateral spreading, and excessive settlement.

Secugrid^® HS geogrid advantages: high stiffness and long-term tensile strength

High robustness
Extensional tensile stiffness up to 20,400 kN/m at 1% strain keeps deformation under service loads well within serviceability (SLS) limits. This is essential for controlling settlement, lateral spreading, and overall deformation.
Long-term minimal creep
Low creep tendency is verified in accordance with polymer-specific reduction factors per EBGEO or BS8006-1. The extruded PE protective coating ensures long-term durability with a design life of at least 100 years.
HPQ approved
Secugrid^® HS 600, 800, and 1200 hold Deutsche Bahn (German Railways) HPQ (manufacturer-specific product qualification) for application 3.8 per DBS 918 039. Directly specifiable on German Railways (DB AG) infrastructure projects.

Why extensional stiffness at low strain matters more than peak tensile strength

Secugrid^® HS is designed for applications, where the reinforcement must mobilise tensile forces at very small strains. This highlights the key difference between peak tensile strength and extensional stiffness.

Peak tensile strength (e.g. 1,200 kN/m for Secugrid^® HS 1200/100 R6) defines failure capacity, but embankment performance is governed by serviceability. Excessive settlement and lateral spreading occur long before ultimate strength is reached. At low strains, a geogrid with low tensile stiffness mobilises insufficient tensile force, allowing deformation and instability to develop.

Secugrid^® HS provides very high extensional stiffness at low strain. At 1% elongation, Secugrid^® HS 1200 mobilises up to 20,400 kN/m, activating tensile resistance early. This effectively controls settlement, limits lateral spreading, and ensures stable, serviceable embankments on soft subgrades.

Secugrid^® HS is a high-strength geogrid for reinforcement of embankments over soft soil. HS stands for High Strength. Nominal tensile strengths range from 400 to 1,200 kN/m in longitudinal direction (DIN EN ISO 10319). The HS series uses high-tenacity PET filaments with extruded PE protective coating and welded junctions. It is specified when standard Secugrid^® grades (40 to 400 kN/m) do not provide sufficient reinforcement capacity to meet the required long-term design strength.

Standard Secugrid^® covers nominal tensile strengths from 20/20 (biaxial) to 400/40 kN/m (uniaxial). Secugrid^® HS starts at 400 kN/m and reaches 1,200 kN/m, covering the ultra-high reinforcement range. The standard Secugrid product range is made from extruded monolithic bars, whereas Secugrid HS is made from high-tenacity PET filaments with PE protective coating and welded junctions.

Embankments on soft soils must meet strict SLS deformation limits. On soft soils, strains remain low; geogrids with low tensile stiffness mobilise insufficient tensile resistance force. High stiffness at 1% strain activates reinforcement early, controlling settlement and lateral spreading before peak strength is reached.

All six Secugrid^® HS grades are supplied in roll dimensions of 4.75 m width x 50 m length.
