Naue Portal

Online geotechnical design software for geosynthetic solutions

The Naue Portal combines the SolutionFinder with specialised calculators for geotechnical design tasks. Design engineers, engineering consultancies and contractors can define applications systematically, process project-specific inputs and – depending on the selected module – generate layer configurations, design checks, quantities, product recommendations and documented calculation results.

In brief: The Naue Portal is Naue's browser-based platform for geotechnical solution selection, design and project documentation. It includes the SolutionFinder and the DesignSuite with application-specific calculators.

Geotechnical applications and advantages in the Naue Portal

The available modules cover a range of design tasks in road and earthworks engineering, working platforms, erosion control, hydraulic engineering, and lining and retention systems. Select the tool that matches your project’s application area and profit from:

  1. Narrow down the solution systematically: The SolutionFinder uses project-specific questions to guide users from the engineering task to a suitable system or product recommendation.
  2. Complete defined design tasks: The DesignSuite contains specialised calculators for clearly defined geotechnical engineering problems.
  3. Document inputs and results: Depending on the module, inputs, design bases, results, quantities, drawings or product information are compiled in a report.
  4. Save and continue projects: Calculations can be stored by project in the ‘Project management’ section in the Naue Portal and reopened at a later stage.
  5. Bring in engineering support: The Naue Engineering and Design Department can be consulted where conditions are complex or fall outside standard cases.

Find, design and document geotechnical solutions

Geotechnical projects do not always begin with a predetermined product or a specific design method. The Naue Portal therefore provides two routes into the design process: start with the engineering application in the SolutionFinder or go directly to a specialised calculator in the DesignSuite. Select the section that matches your project question and open the relevant detail page for information on inputs, design method, outputs and application limits.

Naue SolutionFinder

The right place to start when the engineering application is known, but the product, system configuration or design route has not yet been defined.

  • Start by application, function or product
  • Guided, parameter-based questions
  • Recommendation and technical rationale, depending on the selected pathway
  • Project report and, where included in the pathway, design and tender documentation

Naue DesignSuite

The direct route when a specific design or comparison task needs to be completed.

  • Specialised calculators with a defined application range
  • Inputs for loads, geometry, ground, material or hydraulic conditions
  • Module-specific checks, quantity calculations or option comparisons
  • Downloadable report and project savings estimation

How geotechnical design works in the Naue Portal

  1. Select an application or calculator: Start with your engineering task in the SolutionFinder or open the relevant design module directly in the DesignSuite.
  2. Enter the project data: Depending on the tool, inputs may include geometry, loads, traffic loading, ground parameters, layer properties or hydraulic actions.
  3. Apply the design method: The calculator processes the inputs using the method stated for that module and within its defined application range.
  4. Review and compare the results: Depending on the module, the outputs may include design checks, required layer thicknesses, product options, quantities, cost inputs or comparisons between alternative build-ups.
  5. Save the report and/or request engineering support: The design basis and results are documented. Where conditions fall outside the standard case, the enquiry can be passed to the Naue Engineering and Design Department.

Design methods and technical basis of the calculators

Each calculator is developed for a clearly defined design task. The Naue Portal therefore does not apply one generic formula to every application. Instead, each module identifies the underlying method, the required inputs and the calculated outputs. This allows users to establish early whether the tool is suitable for the project task and the applicable standards and guidance.

The method to be applied to a particular project depends, among other factors, on the project location, contractual basis, national requirements and actual site conditions. Each tool page must therefore state the method, scope, inputs and outputs clearly.

Method/basisTypical application in the PortalWhat the relevant module assesses
AASHTO Guide 1993Flexible pavementsRequired structural pavement composition; depending on the tool variant, comparison of an unreinforced and geogrid-stabilised aggregate base or assessment of design life.

CBR- and EV2-based approachesUnbound base courses and bearing-capacity targetsRequired base-course thicknesses, material quantities and cost comparisons in modules designed for this purpose.
DIN 1054 / DGGT-based checksLayered lining and retention systems on slopesSlope-parallel sliding stability; where required, design of geogrid reinforcement and anchorage.

Frequently asked questions about the Naue Portal

The Naue Portal is a browser-based platform for geotechnical solution selection, design and project documentation. It combines the guided SolutionFinder with specialised calculators in the DesignSuite.

The SolutionFinder starts with the engineering application or geotechnical function and guides users step by step towards a suitable solution or product recommendation. The DesignSuite provides direct access to specialised calculators for design tasks that have already been defined.

The published modules cover, among other areas, road and earthworks engineering, working platforms, erosion control, hydraulic and coastal engineering, and lining and retention systems.

The method depends on the individual calculator. Stated design bases include AASHTO 1993, the modified Giroud & Han method, BS 8006, BR 470, CBR- and EV2-based approaches, DIN 1054/DGGT and design models for geotextile sand containers.

No. Each calculator has a defined application range and requires project-specific inputs. The suitability of a method for a particular project must be assessed against the location, applicable standards and guidance, contractual basis and actual conditions.

This depends on the tool. Typical inputs include geometry, loads, traffic loading, ground parameters, layer properties, material properties or hydraulic actions.

Depending on the module, outputs may include required layer thicknesses, design checks, product or system recommendations, quantities, option comparisons, drawings and a documented report. The relevant tool page describes the specific outputs.

Yes, where product selection forms part of the selected module. In this case, actual Naue product names and type designations are provided so that the recommendation can be identified clearly.

Yes. Calculations can be saved by project, and every calculator and the SolutionFinder tool provides a downloadable report. Depending on the tool, the documentation can include tender texts, schematic drawings, additional product information and other relevant project details. This makes it easy to document results and use them directly for further project planning and tendering.

Use the enquiry form to contact the Naue Engineering and Design Department. Existing inputs and calculation results can provide the basis for a project-specific engineering review.

Use of the Naue Portal is currently free of charge. A personal user account is required for access. Please visit the log-in page for log-in or registration.

The Naue Portal runs in a web browser and does not require a local installation or separate desktop software. It is intended for use on desktop computers, tablets and smartphones. A larger screen is generally more convenient for completing extensive calculations.

No. The Portal supports defined planning and design tasks, but does not replace any required project-specific review, approval or authorisation. The current terms of use apply.
