Naue VeneerReinforcement
Slope-parallel stability of layered lining systems
Naue VeneerReinforcement is a free online calculator in the Naue Portal DesignSuite that checks the slope-parallel (veneer) sliding stability of layered lining and cover systems - such as landfill capping and sealing systems on slopes. It calculates the safety against sliding of the system from your geometry and interface parameters and, where the interface shear strength cannot carry the shear forces, dimensions a Secugrid® geogrid as reinforcement against sliding, including its anchorage. The tool handles arbitrary layered systems and checks the final (in-service), construction and exceptional (accidental) design states to DIN 1054 (BSP, BST and BSA), including trafficking by construction equipment.

From slope geometry to a verified lining system: how VeneerReinforcement delivers
Challenge
- Cover and lining systems on slopes can slide along low-friction interfaces
- Layer interfaces have limited shear strength
- Construction trafficking adds temporary loads that can trigger sliding
Naue solution
- A veneer-stability calculator that assesses the governing interface and, where needed, dimensions a Secugrid® geogrid reinforcement and its anchorage
Results
- The safety factor against slope-parallel sliding for your system
- Where needed, the required geogrid reinforcement and anchorage
- Verified stability in the final, construction and exceptional (accidental) states, documented in a report
Where VeneerReinforcement helps: applications covered
Naue VeneerReinforcement is used wherever a layered cover or lining system sits on a slope and must be verified against slope-parallel sliding and reinforced where the interfaces alone are not enough.
- Landfill capping systems: veneer stability of capping and restoration layers on landfill slopes.
- Sealing systems on slopes: lining systems with geomembranes and geotextiles on inclines.
- Cover and restoration layers: soil cover and vegetation layers over sealing systems.
- Lined ponds and basins: slope linings for basins, reservoirs and retention structures.
- Mining and tailings: cover systems on mining and tailings storage slopes.
How VeneerReinforcement works: model, verify and reinforce
A guided form captures the slope, the layers and the interfaces, checks the sliding safety in the relevant states and - where needed - sizes the reinforcement and its anchorage, with the option to save the calculation to a project.

Build the system from the base slope up through the cover layers.
- Base slope: slope angle, height, toe support height, soil type and friction angle
- Cover layers: thickness, friction angle, cohesion, unit weight, grain size D90 and type
- Add any number of layers to build the lining system from base to surface
- Clear diagrams of the slope, layers and anchor trench guide the input

Define how the layers interact and the loads they carry:
- Governing interface shear strength via a Naue-recommended contact friction angle or a manual value
- Seepage and snow load acting on the system
- Verification in the final (in-service), construction and exceptional (accidental) states to DIN 1054 (BSP, BST, BSA)
- Construction trafficking by construction equipment is considered (static, dynamic and braking loads)

When interfaces are insufficient, VeneerReinforcement provides the solution.
- If the interface shear strength cannot carry the shear forces, it dimensions a Secugrid® geogrid as reinforcement against sliding
- It sizes the anchorage of the geogrid, including the anchor trench
- A downloadable report documents the safety factors, reinforcement and anchorage; save the calculation to a project in the Naue Portal

For geotechnical & design engineers: a clear veneer-stability check for arbitrary layered systems, with automatic geogrid reinforcement and anchorage design where needed, in both final and construction states. The Naue EDD provides project-specific review.
For contractors and site managers: confidence that the cover system stays stable during placement and trafficking, with a defined geogrid and anchor-trench detail for the works.
For project owners and clients: Documented long-term slope stability for capping and lining systems - reduced risk of costly slope failures and a clear basis for approval.

| VeneerReinforcement applies recognised veneer (slope-parallel) stability principles to DIN 1054 for layered lining systems, combined with the performance of Naue geogrids. Where a project needs individual review, the Naue Engineering and Design Department (EDD) supports designers and contractors with project-specific design. | |
The VeneerReinforcement advantage: stable slopes, documented
Naue VeneerReinforcement gives engineers a fast, reliable way to verify the stability of layered lining and cover systems on slopes - and to reinforce them where needed. By assessing the governing interface and, where required, dimensioning a Secugrid® geogrid and its anchorage in the final, construction and exceptional (accidental) states, it reduces the risk of costly slope failures and keeps the works safe during placement. Every design is captured in a downloadable report and backed by Naue's engineering support.
Naue VeneerReinforcement: frequently asked questions
Naue VeneerReinforcement is a free online calculator in the Naue Portal DesignSuite that checks the slope-parallel (veneer) sliding stability of layered lining and cover systems and, where needed, dimensions a Secugrid® geogrid reinforcement against sliding and its anchorage.
It is the sliding of a cover or lining system along a weak interface parallel to the slope - for example a geomembrane/geotextile or soil interface with low friction. VeneerReinforcement assesses the safety against this failure mode.
For lining and cover systems on slopes, such as landfill capping and sealing systems, cover and restoration layers, and slope linings for ponds and basins - any arbitrary layered system on an incline.
The base slope (angle, height, toe height, soil type and friction angle), the cover layers (thickness, friction angle, cohesion, unit weight and type), the governing interface shear strength (a Naue-recommended or manual contact friction angle), and the seepage and snow load.
When the shear strength at the layer interfaces cannot carry the shear forces, the tool dimensions a Secugrid® geogrid as reinforcement against sliding and designs its anchorage, including the anchor trench.
Yes. It verifies the final (in-service), construction and exceptional (accidental) states to DIN 1054, including trafficking of the slope by construction equipment, which can be the governing case.
You receive the safety factors against sliding, any required reinforcement and anchorage, and a downloadable report; you can save the calculation to a project in the Naue Portal.
It is free within the Naue Portal and requires a portal login. It is aimed at geotechnical and design engineers, contractors and project owners working on capping, sealing and cover systems on slopes.
