Naue RetentionPond
Naue RetentionPond is a free online calculator in the Naue Portal DesignSuite for the stability design of lining and sealing systems in retention ponds and basins. It automatically checks the safety against slope-parallel sliding of the sealing system to DIN 1054 / DGGT recommendations, taking account of the subsoil (soil types) and optional design situations. Where the shear strength at the layer interfaces cannot carry the shear forces, it dimensions a Secugrid® geogrid as reinforcement against sliding, including its anchorage, and it recommends the required Secutex® protection and Secudrain® drainage layers - so the pond lining is stable, durable and compliant.
At a glance
- What it is: a free online calculator in the Naue Portal DesignSuite (login required)

From pond geometry to a verified lining: how RetentionPond delivers
Challenges
- Pond lining systems on slopes can slide along low-friction interfaces
- Different soil types and design situations change the governing case
- Protection and drainage layers must be specified correctly
Naue solution
- An automated, DGGT-based stability calculator that assesses the interfaces and, where needed, sizes a Secugrid® reinforcement, its anchorage and the protection/drainage layers
Results
- The safety factor against sliding for your pond lining
- Where needed, the geogrid reinforcement and anchorage
- Determined protection and drainage layers - documented in a report
Where RetentionPond helps: applications covered
Naue RetentionPond is used wherever a lined pond or basin has sloped sides that must be verified against sliding and where the protection, drainage and reinforcement layers of the sealing system need to be specified.
- Retention ponds: stormwater and rainwater retention ponds with lined slopes.
- Detention basins: flood-detention and balancing basins.
- Reservoirs & storage: lined water-storage and process-water basins.
- Lined slopes: sealing systems on the sloped sides of basins.
- Protection & drainage layers: recommendation of the required Secutex® protection and Secudrain® drainage layers.
How RetentionPond works: model, verify and specify
A guided form captures the pond slope, the subsoil and the sealing system, checks the sliding safety to DGGT and - where needed - sizes the reinforcement, anchorage and the protection and drainage layers, with the option to save the calculation to a project.

Define the sloped side of the pond and the ground beneath it.
Practical advantages:
- Base slope: slope angle, height and toe support length
- Subsoil conditions with soil-type selection
- Friction angle of the base slope; cover layer(s) with thickness, unit weight and friction angle; seepage water and snow load
- Clear diagrams of the slope, layers and anchor trench guide the input

Build the lining and set the governing conditions
- Assemble the sealing-system layers from the base slope to the surface, selecting the sealing product (Bentofix® or Carbofol® systems); the tool verifies stability but does not itself propose a sealing material
- Consider soil types and optional design situations to capture the governing case; seepage / through-flow water and snow load are taken into account
- Define the shear strength at the governing interface
- Automated calculation to DIN 1054 / DGGT recommendations

RetentionPond verifies the design and specifies the layers
- If the interface shear strength cannot carry the shear forces, it dimensions a Secugrid® geogrid as reinforcement against sliding and its anchorage (anchor trench), including checks of the slope crest and anchorage trench.
- It recommends the required Secutex® protection and Secudrain® drainage layers of the sealing system.
- A downloadable report documents the safety factors, reinforcement and layers; save the calculation to a project.

For geotechnical and design engineers: An automated DGGT stability check for pond lining systems, with geogrid reinforcement, anchorage and protection/drainage layer determination where needed. The Naue EDD provides project-specific review.
For contractors and site managers: A defined, buildable lining system with the required layers and anchor-trench detail - stable pond slopes and a clear basis for the works.
For project owners and clients: Documented, standards-based stability for the pond lining - reduced risk of slope failures and leakage, and a clear basis for approval.

| RetentionPond applies recognised slope-parallel stability principles to DIN 1054 / DGGT recommendations for pond lining systems, combined with the performance of Naue geogrids. Where a project needs individual review, the Naue Engineering and Design Department (EDD) supports designers and contractors with project-specific design. |
The RetentionPond advantage: stable, compliant pond linings
Naue RetentionPond gives engineers a fast, automated way to verify the stability of pond and basin lining systems to DGGT - and to specify the reinforcement, protection and drainage layers that make them work. By assessing the governing interface, sizing a Secugrid® geogrid and its anchorage where needed and determining the required layers, it reduces the risk of costly slope failures and leakage, and keeps the design standards-based and documented, backed by Naue's engineering support.
Naue RetentionPond: frequently asked questions
Naue RetentionPond is a free online calculator in the Naue Portal DesignSuite that checks the stability of lining and sealing systems in retention ponds and basins to DIN 1054 / DGGT recommendations, and sizes Secugrid® reinforcement plus Secutex®/Secudrain® protection and drainage layers where needed.
It calculates the safety against slope-parallel sliding of the sealing system on the pond slope, automatically to DIN 1054 / DGGT, considering soil types and optional design situations.
For retention ponds, detention and balancing basins, and other lined water-retention structures with sloped sides.
The base slope (angle, height, toe support length), the subsoil conditions and soil type, the friction angle, the sealing-system layers, and any optional design situations.
When the shear strength at the layer interfaces cannot carry the shear forces, the tool dimensions a Secugrid® geogrid as reinforcement against sliding and designs its anchorage, including the anchor trench.
Yes. The automated DIN 1054 / DGGT calculation takes account of the subsoil and soil types and lets you include optional design situations to capture the governing case.
Yes. Alongside the stability check, it recommends the required Secutex® protection and Secudrain® drainage layers of the pond sealing system.
RetentionPond is free within the Naue Portal and requires a portal login. It is aimed at geotechnical and design engineers, contractors and project owners working on lined ponds and basins.
