Flood of the century in Scharbeutz: Successful coastal protection with Naue Secutex® Soft Rock sand containers

Successful coastal protection with Naue Secutex® Soft Rock sand containers

Last week, a devastating flood of the century hit the Baltic Sea coast in Scharbeutz. Fortunately, the region was able to prevent major damage thanks to a coastal protection system implemented several years ago using Naue Secutex® Soft Rock sand containers.

The attached pictures were taken immediately after the flood event. They clearly show how the sand containers, which were integrated into the coastal protection system, successfully fulfilled their protective function despite the enormous forces of nature. These sand containers were previously covered with sand and vegetation and blended harmoniously into the beach scene.

The main function of the sand containers was to protect the foundations of buildings and the shoreline from erosion and scour. During this exceptional flood event, they proved to be extremely reliable and resilient. They played a major role in preventing major damage and protecting the Scharbeutz coastline from the devastating effects of the flood.

In the coming weeks, the shoreline will gradually regain its normal condition. The sand containers that were temporarily exposed will be covered with sand again, not only to provide storm surge protection, but also to blend back into the beach scene in an inconspicuous way.

This example impressively demonstrates the effectiveness and resilience of Naue Secutex® Soft Rock sand containers as an integral part of a sustainable coastal protection system. Their successful performance in an actual flood situation underlines their importance for the protection of vulnerable coastal regions and the safety of the communities there.
